Latelya, I discovered lot of people are passing through depression in one way or the other. The pathetic part of it is that you won't even know you are depressed.
Depression is a mood disorder that can affect a person's daily life. It can be described as feelings of sadness, loss and anger. www.healthline.com.
From the above definition it is quite difficult to really understand one is passing through depression, because we must have daily event that will spring up sadness, anger and loss. Does that mean when I begin to observe this in life that am depressed? Certainly not!
You will agree with me that most pains we have undergone create different impact in our life. Some takes longer time to go, why some go without our notice and some are just like something that have come to stay. For example the pains of losing our loved ones, relationship and marriage tends to linger.
When this pains lingers it create a vacuum in the system which yearns to be fed. Since it can not be fed automatically then our emotion tends to deteriorate as such leading the affected person into uncontrollable deep thought.
When this thought lingers you begin to feel pains as though you lost something big in life, in fact it makes you shadow of yourself, sometimes it can even make you feel bad about yourself by making you see yourself as a failure, having nothing good to produce out of your life. When you begin to observe this and the following such as:
Constant headache,
Mood swings,
Sadness,
Hotness of the body system,
Resentment,
Pains as though something very important has left you,
Hearing strange voices and dreams,
Having thought of taking your life for any reasons,
Shows you are depressed. As such need medical attention.
However you must understand that depression don't happen in a day, it is something that usually takes time to surface. Just as self love and worth don't happen magically. As such it was built overtime.
You may ask how do you get to know about this? I got to know about this as a result of concern I had lately towards human behaviour. Nowadays a lot of people Walking on the street talk to themselves, some hardly noticed people around them, some are smiling while sadness is being revealed in their smiles, a lot of persons are older than their age not because of physical stress but emotional stress.
Then I discovered same thing happening to my dear mother, then I decided to take her to the hospital getting there I met a lot of persons with same complaint. I had discussion with some, I found out they were almost saying the same thing. We can't stop depression from happening to people, but do you know it can be avoided?
How To Overcome/ avoid depression
Before we go ahead to talk about how to overcome/ avoid depression. We must not forget to point out those who are vulnerable to it. Which are :
Widow/Widowers, divorced, broken relationship/ marriage, business men, students etc.
When you fall in one of the listed above, you should try to invest more on happiness than anything. Life is just one, beating yourself hard over lost will not bring it back. Always find time to do those things that you used to find interest doing.
If you are a widow/ widower most especially in this part of the world Africa, ignore what people thinks of you and think more of what gives you joy and happiness.
When you are having problem in controlling your emotions find someone to talk to. I tell you when you are in midst of happy people there is joy generated which you can't generate on your own.
Conclusively don't sit at home seek medical attention.
